The Michigan Chronicle on Briana DuBose

Briana DuBose – Executive Director, EcoWorks

Briana DuBose, Executive Director of EcoWorks, is a passionate advocate for climate justice and energy equity in Detroit. Leaving a successful corporate career, DuBose followed a faith-driven calling to serve her community, particularly addressing the cycle of energy debt faced by low-income residents. Her work highlights the systemic issues in utility assistance programs and pushes for long-term, sustainable solutions such as renewable energy, energy-efficient home upgrades, and holistic community support.

Under her leadership, EcoWorks helped secure a $30 million settlement from DTE Energy to aid low-income customers and fund home improvements. Despite limited resources, DuBose emphasizes the need to address deep-rooted home safety issues before energy solutions can be implemented.

She also spearheads the Sacred Spaces initiative, a state-funded program supporting congregations in reducing fossil fuel use while turning them into community advocates for sustainability. EcoWorks’ recent $20 million grant win through the Community Change Grants Program will significantly boost its reach and impact.

DuBose views her work as both practical and spiritual—grounded in results and guided by faith, hope, and the belief that today’s efforts will empower future generations.
